Good News of the Gospel!

Have you ever wondered why the Gospel is called the ‘Good News’? There is even a Bible translation named after it. I have noticed that there are some who would complicate the Gospel, and say your salvation depends on certain things. For example, you must worship on Sabbath Saturday, eat certain foods ie be a vegetarian, believe that hell is not eternal, speak in tongues, accept that the earth is ‘young’ at about 5,000 years old, believe in creation as 7 literal days of 24 hours, must be a Calvinist, baptised by total immersion, can’t have women in the pulpit, and there are more. For some folks, anything less than their way makes you unsaved, or your salvation is false. You know what that means to them? You can’t call yourself a Christian, and have no chance of getting into heaven! Wow, what arrogant presumption.

Part of the reason the Gospel is called the ‘Good News’ is its simplicity. It is not complicated. If you can read it, accept it, believe it and repent, that’s all you need. We find these sobering words in Matthew 18:3: Then he (Jesus) said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.”

If you need any other ‘proof’, how about these verses: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 ...and...
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9… and...
I will never turn away anyone who comes to Me. John 6:37

Yes, the Gospel really is Good News for all, and certainly not complicated! Thank you Lord.
